“As a result of persistently high food prices, hunger is spreading.” (Brown 4)
This was a great quote to discuss for the subject of world hunger. For the most part the first thing to come to mind when hunger is brought up is usually food shortages in third world counties causing huge amounts of hunger but this is not always a case. Don't get me wrong, food shortages in third world countries are a HUGE issue but not the only issue regarding hunger. In fact, we have a lot of problems with domestic hunger right here in the United States. Although shortages do cause a good portion of these issues a huge factor in hunger all around the world is PRICE. With the global economy not doing so well many people around the world are finding that they do not have the means to feed themselves or their families and this is a huge issue. The rising prices of food should be brought up along with shortages of food because they are equally as devastating when it comes to world hunger.

"The first trend of concern is population growth. Each year there are 79 million more people at the dinner table. Unfortunately, the overwhelming majority of these individuals are being added in countries where soils are eroding, water tables are falling, and irrigation wells are going dry. If we cannot get the brakes on pop- ulation growth, we may not be able to eradicate hunger.” (Brown 5)
This is another very important issue and one that can’t be "fixed”. There is no moral way to decrease the population so that isn’t even up for discussion. With population rising as fast as it does food sources need to be going up while food prices are going down and it is unfortunate that we have to say that the exact opposite is happening. Since there is no way to decrease population our only option is to find clean, environmentally friendly, and cost effective ways to produce food ESPECIALLY in areas where it is not as easy due to bad conditions for growing or raising food sources.

"Plan B is the alternative to business as usual. Its goal is to move the world from the current decline and collapse path onto a new path where food security can be restored and civilization can be sustained.” (Brown 23)
This quote sums up exactly what needs to be done to fix the problems we are facing. Being on the path we are of food sources decreasing and food pricing increasing we need to turn things around completely to fix the issue of hunger. Unfortunately as the old saying goes "it is easier said than done" so as great as this plan sounds I need to see action before I am impressed. Not only do we need to work to restore what we have but once we reach our goal we must sustain food sources and prices at a steady rate in order to succeed. It would also be great if we could give ourselves enough room to help out other countries and help them find a good plant to help the entire planet be successful at sustaining food sources correctly.

"The challenge is not only to build a new economy but to do it at wartime speed before we miss so many of nature’s dead- lines that the economic system begins to unravel.” (Brown 27)
Now with the above quote discussing what must be done to fix hunger issues this was a great reminder that we are low on time. The longer it takes to get on track will be negative because that is precious time that we could could be operating with a better system but more importantly we can only abuse this great planet so much. Eventually resources will run out and it will be impossible to restore things back to where they were so that is why it is pivotal to begin operating cleanly as soon as possible.
